  • Understanding the Unavailability of Item Category Parameters in GA4 Explore Reports

Hey folks, has anyone been having trouble with ‘item_category’ parameters in Explore reports? Out of the blue, they’ve vanished and that’s a problem because I rely heavily on them.

I dump all my data in the ‘item_category’ compartments (item_category2, 3, 4, and 5 to be specific) and it used to be visible in the reports. Now, they’re like ghosts—they don’t show up as ecommerce dimensions.

Anyone have a clue how we can scrutinize our ecommerce performance without this?

    Here’s a snapshot of Explore

Configuration looks good. In the good old days, I had these parameters in my report.
Even when I’m putting GA4 debugger to work, the event seems fine and is catching all ecommerce parameters. The strange thing is, I can’t see them now. Wondering what’s up with that.

The user seems to be having trouble with the disappearance of ‘item_category’ parameters in their Explore reports. Despite their data and configuration methods seeming to be sound, the ‘item_category2’, ‘item_category3’, ‘item_category4’, and ‘item_category5’ compartments, which they typically used to gather specific ecommerce information, no longer seem to be visible in the reports. This has limited their ability to properly conduct ecommerce performance analysis. They are asking for insights into how such ecommerce performance evaluations can be conducted without the specific ‘item_category’ parameters, and why these parameters are not appearing in the reports despite no change in their data collection and processing methods.

It sounds like somehow the parameters of ‘item_category’ have become unassociated with your reports. There may have been an update or change in your system setup which could have caused this issue. I would suggest reiterating the entire process of setting up ‘item_category’ parameters again, as they might not have been properly established or they might have been accidentally removed. As for scrutinizing your ecommerce performance without this, you might have to rely on other parameters or categories that are still visible in the reports until you fix this issue. However, it’s hard to say without more insight into your configuration, system, and the type of data you have. I’d strongly recommend reaching out to your technical support team or forum for more specialized assistance.
