Hey! This one’s been tripping me up, should’ve been a walk in the park but here we are. So, I’ve made this custom report in GA4 – it’s focused on User traffic with bits and bobs of different cards. Now, when I choose my Reports tab and the Library, there it is. It’s comfortably sitting in the Reports list, as it should.

Now, here’s where it gets funny – when I click on it, I can add my own tweaks to it, alter the Report Data, mess around with Summary Cards, Charts, you know the deal…

But, and here’s the kicker – where, in the name of all that’s good, do I just “View” the thing? I simply want to have a peek at the report, fiddle with the date filter, and perhaps even share it the same way I do with the ready-to-use Reports (like the User acquisition, Traffic acquisition ones and so on).

A bit of help from your side would be deeply appreciated. Cheers!

In GA4, the process of modifying and viewing custom reports is done in the same section. Once you click on your report in the list under the Library, you can view the information currently available. You can also adjust parameters like the date filter directly from this screen. To share the report, you need to save any changes you have made, then click the share button located in the upper right side. This will allow you to share it just like the ready-to-use reports. If you don’t make any changes, you are essentially “viewing” the report. So, the view and edit features are integrated into one section for customized reports.

I understand your confusion. Using the edit mode is currently the way to view custom reports in Google Analytics 4 (GA4). GA4 is designed as such that when you click on your customer report from the library, it takes you to the edit mode where you can review and modify your report. If you want to simply view the report, you can do so by first clicking on the report in the library which takes you to the edit mode/view. Then, to adjust the date range for the report, go to the “date range” drop-down menu at the top of the page, change it as per your needs and the report will adjust accordingly. As per sharing the custom report, unfortunately, GA4 does not currently support a feature to share custom reports in the same direct way as the standard or ready-to-use reports. Your peers would need access to the GA4 property to view the custom reports you create.
