  • Trouble with Removing Google Analytics 4 Cookies using Osano Consent Management Platform

I’m currently using the Osano Developer plan for a Cookie Consent Manager on my website, which only uses essential cookies and Google Analytics 4 (GA4) cookies. I’ve noticed that whilst my Cookie Consent initially works and no GA4 cookies are set until a user opts-in, afterwards if a user opts out, the cookies don’t appear to be removed. I’m checking this via Google Chrome’s Developer Tools, within the Application tab and then the Cookies section. I thought that the cookies would be removed or at least the “Expires / Max Age” field would change. Have you also found this?

Additionally, I’m confused by the “Osano dashboard –> Cookie Management –> Cookies tab”. Here, the GA4 cookies were found and I’ve managed them. However, in the “Storage Preference Drawer” under the Analytics section, the GA4 cookies don’t appear, which I find odd. This happens both on my website and in the Osano Storage Preference Drawer preview. Do you know why this might be the case?

In case it’s helpful, I’ve also attached images from my Osano Consent Management customization and from Chrome’s Developer Tools, showing the GA4 cookies after a user has opted in and then out.

There seem to be two main issues you’re encountering with Osano’s Cookie Consent Manager. First, you’re noticing that even after a user opts out of having cookies track their data, the cookies aren’t removed and there is no change in the “Expires / Max Age” field. This might occur because the mechanism for removing or updating the cookie may not be functioning as expected. An alternative explanation could be that cookies set by Google Analytics 4 are not instantly deleted but could take some time to be removed.

The second issue revolves around Google Analytics 4 cookies not appearing in the “Storage Preference Drawer” under the Analytics section in your Osano dashboard. Because most cookie consent solution providers, including Osano, don’t manually curate the list of specific cookies for each category (like “Analytics”), the content in the storage preference drawer might be more of a general summary of the analytics cookies rather than an exhaustive listing. For instance, the drawer might mention that Analytics cookies help websites understand user interaction, without explicitly listing the specific GA4 cookies encountered on your site.

In order to better understand and address the issues you are facing, I recommend reaching out to Osano’s support team for deeper troubleshooting and guidance.

It seems like you may be encountering a couple of potential issues with the Osano Developer Plan. Your first concern is that Google Analytics 4 cookies aren’t being removed even after a user opts out. One reason for this could be due to the settings in your Cookie Consent Manager. The removal of cookies might not be an automated action upon opting out, so you may need to manually configure this or consult with Osano support.

As for your confusion about the “Osano dashboard –> Cookie Management –> Cookies tab”, it’s unusual that GA4 cookies aren’t appearing in the ‘Storage Preference Drawer’ under the ‘Analytics’ section, because they should be displayed after you’ve managed them. This can possibly be due to a misconfiguration or a bug in the platform. I suggest contacting Osano’s direct support line for a more concrete resolution. They can provide clearer instructions and help you troubleshoot the issue more efficiently.
