  • How to edit scorecard in a default Overview report – or recreate w/ more metrics

Posted by Mindy on 25 November 2023 at 8:19 am

In the default Acquisition Overview report in GA4, there’s an overview score card with totals for Users and New Users. Screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/AtEgyT1.png

I’d like to add Returning Users and a few other metrics to that. Any way to do this?

If not, is there a way to create a new overview score card with all the metrics I’d like to include? I tried creating a new card, but I don’t see a way to get one with the totals along the top.

Thanks in advance for any help/ideas.

    Mindy,
I will divide your question into two parts :

    1. Viewing Returning / New users
    2. Adding new metrics in reports.

    1. Viewing Returning / New users

You can use the New / Established comparison to view the split on the same screen.

By using comparison, you can view all existing reports data split by new / returning.

(Type established in the search bar to quickly access the comparison )

    2. Adding new metrics in reports.

To add new metrics to the report. You can “Create new cards”. ( This is different from “Adding a card).

There are two types of reports in GA4.

Overview Report: You can only Add Cards.

Detailed Report: You can create new Cards.

In your screenshot, you are looking at the Overview Report, You can add existing cards in that by clicking on the Edit icon on the right and then clicking on Add Cards on the panel on the right.

If you want to Create new cards with some metrics. You can customize any Detailed Report. On clicking the customize icon on right, you will see the Create New Card option

Clicking on Create new Card will give you screen for customizing card .

Here you can add Dimensions / metrics and filters to look at the metrics you are after.

Let me know if that solves your challenge

Thank you very much for the reply, Manan. I am trying to add metrics to the scorecard in my original screenshot. I want the totals for each metric to appear at the top of that card in addition to Users and New users. Is there a way to do that?

If not, is there a way to create a new card formatted like this? What I want to do (but haven’t been able to do) is create a single card containing Users, New Users, and Returning Users that also displays the totals for each metric simultaneously, either along the top or in a table. Is that possible?

I can create cards that display these metrics individually via a dropdown menu, and I can create an Explorer report that shows all these metrics, but so far I haven’t been able to create a single card that contains these metrics and shows their totals at the same time, so you can see them together, all at once. Can you help me with that?

    Thanks again.
