Hey there, I’ve been having a bit of a tricky time with Google Tag Manager and I’m hoping you might be able to help me out.

So, here’s the deal: when I’m in preview mode, I’m seeing events show up in the debug ribbon, with the debug parameter set as 1.
But when I get out of preview mode and am browsing the site as usual, I’m not seeing these events in the ribbon–instead, they’re showing up under ‘top events’ to the right side of the debug ribbon.

On top of that, it seems these events aren’t popping up at all on the main events list as conversions.

I’ve made sure my GTM container is published, and I’ve set up events correctly, and a couple of weeks have gone by.
I even tried changing the reporting identity from blended to observed.

I’m pretty sure that there are enough events occurring for them to show up–I’ve done this exact same setup on other sites and it’s worked just fine.

Got any ideas about what might be going wrong here? Any guidance you could give me would be really appreciated.

    Thanks so much,
    Tom

Of course, Tom! Sounds like you’re doing everything right, but sometimes with Google’s GA4 platform, it can take a tad longer for data to appear in reports. Contrary to Universal Analytics, in GA4, stable data may show up after about 48 to 72 hours. So, a bit of patience might be needed here. However, if after that window you’re still not seeing your data, then we might need to dig a bit deeper.

The issues you’re experiencing may be related to either the configuration settings in Google Tag Manager (GTM) or with the way Google Analytics is receiving and interpreting the data. First, ensure that your tags are firing correctly in GTM. Having events showing up ‘top events’ but not in the ‘debug ribbon’ suggests that tag firing may not be occurring as expected. Also, if you’ve recently implemented a new site or altered your website significantly, ensure that your tags aren’t tied to old or broken links on your website. As for the conversions not appearing in your main events list, ensure that your conversion tracking tags are firing properly in the ‘tag assistant’ of Google Analytics. If errors persist, I would suggest contacting Google support, who can provide assistance with more complex troubleshooting.
