I was checking out the GTM Tag Dictionary and saw stuff about Universal Analytics and Classical Analytics, but no GA4. So, can’t we make GA4 tags and triggers with the Tag Manager API? And if we can’t, what other methods can we use to automate creating GA4 tags?

No worries at all, things can get a little tricky sometimes. You’re right, the information on GA4 isn’t directly mentioned in the documents. Despite that, there actually are tag types that apply to GA4. One known as ‘gaawc’ is used for configuration, and another one called ‘gaawe’ is used for event tags. Quite a handy tip, isn’t it?

As of now, the Google Tag Manager API does not support creating GA4 tags and triggers. However, you can use the Google Analytics Admin API to automate the creation of GA4 configuration. Please remember that this involves some coding skill.
