  • Ensuring Complete Data Export from GA4 to BigQuery

So, I’ve taken the plunge and switched on BigQuery Export in Google Analytics 4. Happily trawling through the raw data, and bam, I’ve realized about half of the events seem to have gone walkabout (our sign_up events with user_id as a parameter, to be exact).

Curious, I took a peek at the event stats in the regular GA4 report, and bingo, “Data Thresholding” is on the case. Now, I’m no Sherlock Holmes, but I’m thinking when they slap on this thresholding thing, GA4 is sneaky and hides some events from exporting. But hey, that’s just my guess.

What I need to know is, how can I make sure all my data makes the leap to BigQuery, no omissions? Is there a trick to it?

In principle, Google Analytics 4 (GA4) exports raw event data directly into Google BigQuery without any form of thresholding or data sampling. The “Data Thresholding” you see in your GA4 reports doesn’t apply to the BigQuery export. It’s possible that your missing events might be due to other reasons. You may want to check that the integration between GA4 and BigQuery is set up correctly and that there aren’t any issues with how the specific events are tracked or set up in GA4. It could also be due to a delay in data transferring between GA4 and BigQuery. Be sure that all your user permission settings are correct. If the problem persists, you should consider reaching out to Google support for more detailed assistance.

Data thresholding in Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is a safeguard to prevent any one user from being personally identifiable, this precaution could lead to some events not being exported to BigQuery. However, the thresholding should not impact the raw event data sent to BigQuery, GA4 exports all raw event data into BigQuery irrespective of any extra processes happening in GA4. Therefore, if you find that some events (such as sign_up events) have not been exported, it may be an issue with those specific events’ tracking setup or a delay in the export process. As a step forward, you could check your tracking implementation or contact Google support to ensure everything is functioning correctly and no errors have occurred during the export process.
