  • Analyzing Product Performance in Google Analytics Ecommerce Reports for view_item_list events

I see you’re using Google Tag Manager and DataLayer to track ‘view_item_list’ events, that’s cool! I notice you also push an ‘ecommerce’ object and the data for product items in Realtime and Engagement reports are reflected correctly, which is great. However, you’re not seeing the details for ‘view_item_list’ events in Monetization/Ecommerce Purchases report, correct? So from what I understand, you’re wondering if there’s a way to show counts of specific ‘view_item_list’ events for individual products? Or are you considering if you should modify your DataLayer pushes to see such details?

It seems like you’re trying to get payment insights about the performance of individual products from ‘view_item_list’ events in your Monetization/Ecommerce Purchases report. Unfortunately, the ‘view_item_list’ events data you are looking for – individual products’ performance – is not auto-reflected in the Monetization report. However, you have a couple of options. You can either customize your Google Analytics and configure a Custom Report to specifically show these events. Or, you could modify your DataLayer pushes to include more specific product details. So yes, fine-tuning your DataLayer pushes could be a possible solution, but it might require quite a bit of work. A simpler way could potentially be setting up a Custom Report which might be really helpful in getting the data you need from your Google Tag Manager and DataLayer.

Yes, you’re correct. It seems you’re having trouble seeing ‘view_item_list’ event details in your Monetization/Ecommerce Purchases report, despite them appearing in Realtime and Engagement reports. While there is a possibility of modifying your DataLayer pushes to get this data, it may be more beneficial to identify why these specific events aren’t appearing in your report. Look into possible filters or settings in the Monetization/Ecommerce Purchases report that might be preventing the information from coming through. This way, you would get the ‘view_item_list’ count for each product without modifying your existing DataLayer setup.
