Creating Custom Audiences Based on Events in Google Analytics 4
Hey there tech gurus! I’m on a quest to do something cool with Google Analytics 4 (GA4): I want to create a custom audience, but, let’s be real, I’m kind of stuck! I’ve been diligently having my app fired up with custom events to GA4, and heck, I want to get this audience based on those events. Specifically, I want to catch those who scroll their mouse – and no, not just a handful of them – I’ve got an impressive 1,200 scroll events!
I’ve done the legwork, followed a heap of steps. First things first, I hit my login to Google Analytics. Made my way to [Admin], then [Property], and finally, [Audiences]. Alright, a decent start. I clicked [New Audience] and then gave []
[Create Custom Audience] a shot. I didn’t skimp on the details either:- Gave my gang a name: “Users who scrolled mouse”
- Checked the ‘Set to maximum limit’ radio button (I mean, go hard or go home, right?)
- Clicked ‘Add new condition’
- Picked ‘Events’ from my list of wizard options
- Zeroed in on ‘scroll’
After all the hard work, my summary gave me a glimmer of hope: looked like an awesome 462 users in this audience (Check out screenshot 1 below)! All that was left was a good ol’ click on [Save].
Cue the suspenseful music. I zipped back to the dashboard and… bam! It’s looking lonely with less than 10 users in my audience. Talk about a plot twist! (See the evidence in screenshot 2 below.)
Seriously, I’ve tabulated, analyzed, and compared my cool mouse-scroll audience to all users and still no dice (seen in screenshot 3 below). So, what gives, people?
It’s been a long night, but I’m not admitting defeat. I’ve tried creating custom dimensions, working on custom events, and more. I mean, at the end of the day, I just want to sort users based on the events they’re doing. But, so far? Not quite the party I expected. Can anyone lend a hand here?
