Utilizing a Single GTM Container for UA and GA4 – Is it Feasible?
Hey there!
Just a quick question. I’m in the middle of shifting from UA to GA4. I’d really like the two to coexist for a bit until I’m satisfied the GA4 migration is all good. We use Google Tag Manager for GA so I’m wondering, can the same GTM container tied to the UA property also be used for the GA4 property?
I’ve already got a Universal analytics tag on the GTM container. Tried my hand at making a GA4 configuration tag in the same container. After a little testing, I’m seeing hits on both UA and GA4 reports. You think this could be a smart move?
Our customer has got the GTM script (tied to the UA property) embedded on their site already. No one really fancies extra work so we thought it’d be best not to hand them a new GTM script for GA4. Hence, our question – is it cool to use the same GTM container for both UA and GA4 properties? Just trying to avoid any unnecessary work on the customer’s end.
Looking forward to your insights on this!
Peace,
