  Retrospective data integration from GA4 to BigQuery

  Hey there, I’ve just had a go at setting up a Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to BigQuery data transfer. I read here that backfilling data for GA4 isn’t possible like it was for UA. I’m struggling to figure out if I can get event-level data from the Analytics Data API as well. You wouldn’t happen to know if there’s any way to backfill the data, would you? Maybe through API scripts, or possibly a handy GCP function I don’t know about yet?

  You’re absolutely right. Backfilling was something we could do for Universal Analytics (UA) properties if you were a GA360 customer, and unfortunately, the Data API doesn’t spit out event level data. But as of now, trust me, there’s no official way to backfill BigQuery event data for GA4 properties. Hopefully, they might add this feature in the future.

  Sadly, at the moment, there’s no Google-supported way to backfill the historical data from GA4 into BigQuery. You can’t pull full historical event-level data from the Analytics Data API currently. So for GA4, the BigQuery export essentially starts from the day you enable it.
