  • GA4 Events Not Showing Up in Events List: Why This May Be Happening

Hey there, I’ve been trying to get my head around this issue and need your expertise. So, when I’m rockin’ preview mode in GTM, I’m seeing all these events in the debug ribbon, and I spot that nifty debug parameter sitting at 1. All good so far.

But here’s the kicker: when I step out of GTM preview and just chill on the site like a regular visitor, the events start popping up under ‘top events’ to the right of the debug ribbon, only they don’t make a peep in the ribbon itself. Check it out: GA4 Debug Page

Now, these ‘ug_apply_click’ events are being mighty elusive; can’t find ’em on the main events list to label as conversions. Not even once!

I’ve done my checks: GTM container is published, events are all dressed up and good to go, and it’s been a fortnight already.

Even tried shaking things up, swapped the reporting identity from blended to observed, but no dice!

I’m stumped. The events are happening in droves, I’m certain. Plus, I’ve set all of this up in exactly the same way on other sites and it’s worked like a charm.

What do you think? Got any tricks up your sleeve to fix this one? Thanks in advance…

    Cheers, Tom

Hey Tom, it seems like a puzzling situation. Since the events are appearing in the ‘top events’ but not in the ribbon, it’s possible that there is a disconnect happening between the GTM and GA4. A common reason for this issue is that the event parameters are not defined correctly in the Data Layer or the trigger setup in GTM. Double check to make sure that the event parameters in GTM match those defined in the GA4 interface. If the event parameters or event names include any typos or inconsistencies, GA4 might not recognize and capture them properly. Also, ensure that the GA4 configuration tag in GTM is firing correctly on all pages. Lastly, check the compatibility of the versions of GTM and GA4 that you’re using. These few steps can help troubleshoot the issue.

    Hi Tom,

If you’ve completed all those checks and the set up process was identical to the other successful sites, I’m thinking it might be an issue of data processing time on Google’s end. Usually, events sent to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) should appear almost immediately in the debug view and in the Realtime report. However, owing to different factors, GA might take up to 24-48 hours to process data and reflect it in your reports.

Another thing to check is filtering. There might be some kind of filtering applied that is preventing the events to show. The filter could be at the view level or may have been applied by GA at the property level.

A last resort could be to check if there’s a potential conflict with other scripts on the site. Couple of tools you might find useful for troubleshooting are the “Google Tag Assistant” and “GA Debugger”. They should provide more info on the tags fired and their respective payloads.

If none of these suggestions work, then I’d suggest reaching out to Google’s support via their ‘Help’ portal. I hope you manage to solve this issue soon. Good luck!
